Are You More Gen X, Millennial, or Gen Z Based on Your Pop Culture Preferences?

So many of us have memories of waiting to get back home from school, looking at our watch every other minute just to make sure that we are home just in time to switch on the TV and change the channel to Disney and watch our favourite shows. Be it ‘The Suite Life of Zack and Cody’, ‘Wizards of Waverly Place’ or ‘Kim Possible’; Disney made our childhood so much better with shows like these. All these shows along with many others ended up shaping our childhood and as we grew up so did Disney.

Earlier Disney focused on movies with themes like good will always triumph over evil and that pretty people are always good at heart. Such themes are not only cliché but also seem quite immature and fortunately Disney has shifted its focus to much more mature themes than before. For instance, Disney’s Zootopia, a film for children focused on casual racism explicitly.

Majority of movies especially fairy-tales like Cinderella, Snow White, and many others promoted the damsel in distress stereotype, in which the lead characters is completely helpless and is dependent upon a knight in shining armor to rescue her. As much as it seemed romantic it was also a very irrational representation of women and womanhood. Therefore, when Disney released Moana it was highly praised because of the difference in the story from the others.

“We live in a highly complex, technological world – and it’s not entirely obvious what’s right and what’s wrong in any given situation, unless you can parse the situation, deconstruct it. People just don’t have the insight to be able to do that very effectively.”
― Christopher Langan

“The modern human lives in a cesspool of man-made electromagnetic radiation.”
― Steven Magee

“We do not know how to just do nothing; this is a bigger problem than we care to think about. In the west we are taught to seek our answers in external things and, as a result, we never need to take the time to look within. We have a poor connection with ourselves because our whole lives we have been looking outward; we are a society bent on distraction, and the modern world is only amplifying this.”
― Evan Sutter, Solitude: How Doing Nothing Can Change the World

.“What is most lacking in the modern world of duplications and facsimiles, of endless information and intentional misinformation, is the authenticity that makes life truly meaningful and spiritually rewarding.”
― Michael Meade, The Genius Myth

“The issue is not simply one of needing to save the world, but also of needing to solve the problem of the loss of soul throughout the modern world. Part of what has been lost in the reckless rushing of modernity is the sense that each life has an authentic interior that shelters important emotions as well as inherent purpose, and that the dignity of existence includes a necessary instinct to unfold the unique story woven inside each living soul.”
― Michael Meade, The Genius Myth
