Psychology today seems to be embedded in the assumption that there are 5 basic dimensions of personality which category all the people around the world. Know as the “Big Five”, this model categories dimensions of personalities on the basis of traits which are agreeableness, extraversion, openness, conscientiousness and neuroticism. It is considered that the compound of these traits is what makes up one’s personality. This indicates that all of us are made of the same five elects but the difference is in the intensity of all these factors.

It is still a popular subject of debate that whether these traits are truly universal or not but according to a new research by an international research team a prominent information has been released, one regarding administration of cookie-cutter personality across cultures.  The information is that these tests aren’t the same for the everyone and needs to be changed according to people. This is because these tests are designed considering in mind white, educated, industrialised, rich and democratic societies which is not the case for most part of the world.

“Gansey had always felt as if there were two of him: the Gansey who was in control, able to handle any situation, able to talk to anyone, and then, the other, more fragile Gansey, strung out and unsure, embarrassingly earnest, driven by naive longing.”
― Maggie Stiefvater, The Raven Boys

“There are times when I am so unlike myself that I might be taken for someone else of an entirely opposite character.”
― Jean-Jacques Rousseau, Confessions

“In this metallic age of barbarians, only a relentless cultivation of our ability to dream, to analyse and to captivate can prevent our personality from degenerating into nothing or else into a personality like all the rest.”
― Fernando Pessoa
“The individual, man as a man, man as a brain, if you like, interests me more than what he makes, because I’ve noticed that most artists only repeat themselves. ”
― Marcel Duchamp
“I really like you better aimless and lost among people, a little crazy, oddball, not looking like yourself. So that I don’t know you at all and the nearer I get to you the more you separate yourself from me– I get dizzy trying to follow you and I have to work really hard– and that’s what I want!”
― Alia Mamdouh, The Loved Ones: A Modern Arabic Novel
“Not everyone is allotted the chance to become a personality; most remain types, and never experience the rigor of becoming an individual. But those who do so inevitably discover that these struggles bring them into conflict with the normal life of average people and the traditional values and bourgeois conventions that they uphold. A personality is the product of a clash between two opposing forces: the urge to create a life of one’s own and the insistence by the world around us that we conform. Nobody can develop a personality unless he undergoes revolutionary experiences. The extent of those experiences differs, of course, from person to person, as does the capacity to lead a life that is truly personal and unique.”
― Hermann Hesse, Soul of the Age: Selected Letters, 1891-1962
