Can we guess if Kanye West wants to be your friend?

  1. The Silence of the Lambs

With its award winning leads Jodie Foster and Anthony Hopkins, The Silence of the Lambs was critically acclaimed and earned the favour of the audience because of it’s peculiar elemental mix of creeping horror and psychological thriller. With making the audience explore the hellish depths of a serial killer’s mind, the movie makes us face our personal fear of agency and control. The movie also explores the intimidating relationship pf Special Agent Clarice Starling and Dr. Hannibal, which unrolls in the series by a number of spine-tingling interactions which at the end bubbles over into a gripping and unsettling conclusion.

  1. Searching

One of the most interesting films of 2018, Searching’s majority of screen time took place “on screen” of a smartphone and laptop. It’s not just the unique script but also the remarkable performances by John Cho and Debra Messing which makes the film worthy of praise. The movie revolves around how technology can turn our loved ones to strangers and strangers to loved ones even if we don’t know who they are.

“This above all: to thine own self be true,
And it must follow, as the night the day,
Thou canst not then be false to any man.”
― William Shakespeare, Hamlet

“Life is for the living.
Death is for the dead.
Let life be like music.
And death a note unsaid.”
― Langston Hughes, The Collected Poems

“And I thought about how many people have loved those songs. And how many people got through a lot of bad times because of those songs. And how many people enjoyed good times with those songs. And how much those songs really mean. I think it would be great to have written one of those songs. I bet if I wrote one of them, I would be very proud. I hope the people who wrote those songs are happy. I hope they feel it’s enough. I really do because they’ve made me happy. And I’m only one person.”
― Stephen Chbosky, The Perks of Being a Wallflower

“People worry about kids playing with guns, and teenagers watching violent videos; we are scared that some sort of culture of violence will take them over. Nobody worries about kids listening to thousands – literally thousands – of songs about broken hearts and rejection and pain and misery and loss.”
― Nick Hornby, High Fidelity
