How Long Will You Survive In The Wild?

Due to our modern lifestyle, we don’t need survival tips as most of our basic needs are fulfilled very easily. We often take it for granted. God forbid but if you are lost or stranded in the wild then you may have a hard time surviving if you don’t know the basic survival skills.

Let us discuss a few of them:

1.Don’t Panic

This is one of the most important tips. If you don’t keep calm then you will not be able to think rationally which might affect your chances of survival. You have to very cautious with your available resources and you should know where you could find them.

2.Make your temporary shelter

If you tarp or some other item then you could easily use it make a tent. If you don’t have it then you could build a lean-to with all the resources you could find like wooden logs, leaves, twigs and pine needles.

Water should be next on your priority list. While finding waterbodies is not easy if you don’t know the place. Stay away from stagnant water like in lakes or ponds if you are searching for drinking water. Running sources of water are far better but you still need to boil or filter it using stones, gravels and other such things.

4.Kindle a fire.

You could use dry grass, fallen leaves, and twigs as a fuel of your fire. If you are lucky then you would have brought a lighter. If not then you could use friction to start a fire. It is one of the hardest things to do if you didn’t expect to land in the wilderness.

It is also very crucial because you don’t want to stay there forever. If you could find a waterbody, especially a river then there are chances that someone is living close to it. You could contact them and get out fo the wild pretty easily. While you could also use the fact that Sun rises in the east and sets in the west. You could use it to find your way out of the wild.

You could play this quiz to find how much you sharp are your survival skills.

“No one can tell what goes on in between the person you were and the person you become. No one can chart that blue and lonely section of hell. There are no maps of the change. You just come out the other side.

Or you don’t.”
― Stephen King, The Stand

“What to do if you find yourself stuck in a crack in the ground underneath a giant boulder you can’t move, with no hope of rescue. Consider how lucky you are that life has been good to you so far. Alternatively, if life hasn’t been good to you so far, which given your current circumstances seems more likely, consider how lucky you are that it won’t be troubling you much longer.”
― Douglas Adams, The Original Hitchhiker Radio Scripts

“I’ve always loved strong women, which is lucky for me because once you’re over about twenty-five there is no other kind. Women blow my mind. The stuff that routinely gets done to them would make most men curl up and die, but women turn to steel and keep on coming. Any man who claims he’s not into strong women is fooling himself mindless; he’s into strong women who know how to pout prettily and put on baby voices, and who will end up keeping his balls in her makeup bags.”
― Tana French, Faithful Place

“The worst part is wondering how you’ll find the strength tomorrow to go on doing what you did today and have been doing for much too long, where you’ll find the strength for all that stupid running around, those projects that come to nothing, those attempts to escape from crushing necessity, which always founder and serve only to convince you one more time that destiny is implacable, that every night will find you down and out, crushed by the dread of more and more sordid and insecure tomorrows. And maybe it’s treacherous old age coming on, threatening the worst. Not much music left inside us for life to dance to. Our youth has gone to the ends of the earth to die in the silence of the truth. And where, I ask you, can a man escape to, when he hasn’t enough madness left inside him? The truth is an endless death agony. The truth is death. You have to choose: death or lies. I’ve never been able to kill myself.”
― Louis-Ferdinand Celine
