If You Weren’t Human, What Would You Be?

You might have came across this intriguing question If you weren’t a human, what would you be? While to be honest it is a very silly question but I will like to answer it. The only logical answer that I could think of is from the concept of reincarnations.

Reincarnation is a concept that is found in many ancient religions, the most notable one being Hinduism, states that every soul that had ever taken birth is in a cycle of rebirth. The ultimate goal of life is to end this cycle and attain a state of mind called Moksha. It is said that while you are in that cycle you could take birth as a human, a cat, a dog, a penguin, and so on. To take birth as a human you need to have many good deeds done in your previous lives. Now how could one do good deeds while not being a human is a question for another day? There are many people who don’t believe in such theories and they are free to do so as it has no scientific evidence backing it up. While it is also true that science still doesn’t know the answers to many of the important questions of our existence and hence one could assume that science still might not be in the position to understand these complex questions.

Whichever side you take on you could not deny the fact that it is a very interesting theory. Another interesting fact about this theory is that you retain memories from your previous lives. You might not consciously know about it but it is there in your subconscious mind. It is said that many characteristics is derived from your previous lives. While I don’t know if there is any truth to it.

There are many interesting answers that one could come up with. While I would like to tell you that don’t take it seriously since it is only a quiz and nothing else.

“Nothing was ever in tune. People just blindly grabbed at whatever there was: communism, health foods, zen, surfing, ballet, hypnotism, group encounters, orgies, biking, herbs, Catholicism, weight-lifting, travel, withdrawal, vegetarianism, India, painting, writing, sculpting, composing, conducting, backpacking, yoga, copulating, gambling, drinking, hanging around, frozen yogurt, Beethoven, Back, Buddha, Christ, TM, H, carrot juice, suicide, handmade suits, jet travel, New York City, and then it all evaporated and fell apart. People had to find things to do while waiting to die. I guess it was nice to have a choice.”
― Charles Bukowski, Women

“But these words people threw around – humans, monsters, heroes, villains – to Victor it was all just a matter of semantics. Someone could call themselves a hero and still walk around killing dozens. Someone else could be labeled a villain for trying to stop them. Plenty of humans were monstrous, and plenty of monsters knew how to play at being human.”
― V.E. Schwab, Vicious

“Humans, as a rule, don’t like mad people unless they are good at painting, and only then once they are dead. But the definition of mad, on Earth, seems to be very unclear and inconsistent. What is perfectly sane in one era turns out to be insane in another. The earliest humans walked around naked with no problem. Certain humans, in humid rainforests mainly, still do so. So, we must conclude that madness is sometimes a question of time, and sometimes of postcode.

Basically, the key rule is, if you want to appear sane on Earth you have to be in the right place, wearing the right clothes, saying the right things, and only stepping on the right kind of grass.”
― Matt Haig, The Humans

“If this book has a lesson, it is that we are awfully lucky to be here-and by ‘we’ I mean every living thing. To attain any kind of life in this universe of ours appears to be quite an achievement. As humans we are doubly lucky, of course: We enjoy not only the privilege of existence but also the singular ability to appreciate it and even, in a multitude of ways, to make it better. It is a talent we have only barely begun to grasp.”
― Bill Bryson, A Short History of Nearly Everything
