Is He Obsessed With You?

While love seems a very fascinating concept, it could very toxic if your lover is obsessed with you. You might question “Isn’t it the thing we all want?” True, some people like it but the fact is it could prove detrimental to your lover’s mental health. In fact, it has also been given the name Obsessive Love Disorder or OLD. If a person suffers from it, then the person might become very possessive and try to overprotect the partner. They also might become very controlling treating them as if they are their possession.

There are many symptoms of OLD, the common ones include:

  • getting jealous even if it is a casual talk with someone other than them.
  • obsessive thinking about their partner.
  • feeling the need to protect the partner.
  • very low self-esteem.
  • monitoring or even trying to snoop into the partner’s phone.
  • a constant need for reassurance they will always be with them.
  • losing track of their daily-routine and other relationships as they get obsessed with thinking about their partner.

There could be multiple reasons behind the OLD and it may indicate many underlying health issues. Let us discuss a few of them:

Borderline personality disorder.

It is generally characterized by a disturbance of self-image coupled with severe mood swings. A person with the condition could feel happy or angry in a matter of minutes. It could be coupled with episodes of depression or manic attacks.

Delusional Jealousy.

This disorder surfaces when someone constantly insists that a particular thing is proven false. When it comes to OLD the person could believe that the other person has reciprocated their feelings for them even if it is proven to be false.

Erotomania.

It is also one kind of delusion. When it comes to OLD, it causes you to think that a very famous celebrity is in love with you. This can lead you to constantly harass the celebrity by finding ways to meet them. It is found that most of the people with this disorder have a very private life and are often unemployed.

Play the quiz only for fun and never expect your lover to become obsessive for you. It could prove disastrous for your partner and relationship.

“I’m selfish, impatient and a little insecure. I make mistakes, I am out of control and at times hard to handle. But if you can’t handle me at my worst, then you sure as hell don’t deserve me at my best.”
― Marilyn Monroe

“You’ve gotta dance like there’s nobody watching,
Love like you’ll never be hurt,
Sing like there’s nobody listening,
And live like it’s heaven on earth.”
― William W. Purkey

“I love you without knowing how, or when, or from where. I love you simply, without problems or pride: I love you in this way because I do not know any other way of loving but this, in which there is no I or you, so intimate that your hand upon my chest is my hand, so intimate that when I fall asleep your eyes close.”
― Pablo Neruda, 100 Love Sonnets

“I’m in love with you,” he said quietly.

“Augustus,” I said.

“I am,” he said. He was staring at me, and I could see the corners of his eyes crinkling. “I’m in love with you, and I’m not in the business of denying myself the simple pleasure of saying true things. I’m in love with you, and I know that love is just a shout into the void, and that oblivion is inevitable, and that we’re all doomed and that there will come a day when all our labor has been returned to dust, and I know the sun will swallow the only earth we’ll ever have, and I am in love with you.”
― John Green, The Fault in Our Stars

“I am nothing special, of this I am sure. I am a common man with common thoughts and I’ve led a common life. There are no monuments dedicated to me and my name will soon be forgotten, but I’ve loved another with all my heart and soul, and to me, this has always been enough..”
― Nicholas Sparks, The Notebook

“You don’t love someone because they’re perfect, you love them in spite of the fact that they’re not.”
― Jodi Picoult, My Sister’s Keeper
