Whereas the first working TV was created in the year 1924 by a Scottish engineer John Logie Baird. The interesting part was that it was made out of any material that Baird could find, like cardboard, a bicycle lamp and wax. The invention could transmit the outline of an image a few feet away. The public demonstration of the creation took place in 1925 after which he said, ”The image of the dummy’s head formed itself on the screen with what appeared to me an almost unbelievable clarity. I had got it! I could scarcely believe my eyes and felt myself shaking with excitement.” The invention was further showcased in department stores, making the Baird Television the first television to be sold commercially in the year 1929. After which around a thousand devices were created using reflected light to create a low-resolution image and the TV had a screen about the size of a postage lamp.
The electric TV made by Philo Farnsworth made Baird’s invention obsolete as the electric TV not only offered better resolution but was also easy to mass produce. In the 1930s, the Marconi 702 was a luxury item only the rich could afford. The TV set sold for £100 ($130), which was half of an average annual salary in the 1930s.
According to time a still-functioning Marconi 702 was up for auction in 2011 for thousands. The original could watch it a few hours before a nearby transmitter in London burned down making it unable for the picture to get restored until 1946.
As the model of television has constantly changed since then, affordability still remains a big issue. As consumption of a technology like this involves a lot of aspects related to class because the services of cable, broadband and subscriptions are quite expensive,
