What Is Driving Your Happiness?

Happiness is a very subjective term and its meanings change radically from one person to another. For one it is money for the other it is peace of mind. It is true that some people are more with their lives than others, it should not be perceived as they are always happy. Every person experiences a range of emotions in their daily lives.

The important question is how you see a particular event? If something happens that was unexpected then how will you react to that situation? You may feel that it impedes you from reaching your goal or take it as an opportunity and learn from it even if you fail later on. The choice is yours while if you take the later one then it is certain that at least your mental health will not take a toll and you will have a certain level of satisfaction even if you failed to reach your goal.

It is also true that many people for most of the time cannot see apart from the negatives. It could happen due to several different reasons, for example, it may happen due to their socio-economic class. If they are lower down in the socio-economic strata then they will always have to face the bias nature of our capitalist society. It may turn them negative over time. Another example is that if a child is born to a dysfunctional family.

More often than not it is seen that these children accept that negativity is an integral part of their life and there is no way they could separate it from their lives. If you will take a closer look then you find that there are many things that still plagues modern society. This leads to a person being negative. Hence, in my opinion, we should not judge the person as negative or as the one who could not see opportunities in particular situations.

We should take a deep look into the background of the person and then proceed to advise them. From that person’s perspective, he would feel that he has at least someone who takes care of who he/she is. It signals that the person talking to them is genuinely interested and that will probably the starting point of their therapy.

I am not a mental health professional. These are just my take on the matter. Feel free to correct me down in the comments section.

“Happiness is the consequence of personal effort. You fight for it, strive for it, insist upon it, and sometimes even travel around the world looking for it. You have to participate relentlessly in the manifestations of your own blessings. And once you have achieved a state of happiness, you must never become lax about maintaining it. You must make a mighty effort to keep swimming upward into that happiness forever, to stay afloat on top of it.”
― Elizabeth Gilbert, Eat, Pray, Love

“Even if you cannot change all the people around you, you can change the people you choose to be around. Life is too short to waste your time on people who don’t respect, appreciate, and value you. Spend your life with people who make you smile, laugh, and feel loved.”
― Roy T. Bennett, The Light in the Heart

“When the first baby laughed for the first time, its laugh broke into a thousand pieces, and they all went skipping about, and that was the beginning of fairies.”
― J.M. Barrie, Peter Pan

“Let no one ever come to you without leaving better and happier. Be the living expression of God’s kindness: kindness in your face, kindness in your eyes, kindness in your smile.”
― Mother Teresa

“The advantage of a bad memory is that one enjoys several times the same good things for the first time.”
― Friedrich Nietzsche

“So we shall let the reader answer this question for himself: who is the happier man, he who has braved the storm of life and lived or he who has stayed securely on shore and merely existed?”
― Hunter S. Thompson

“I felt once more how simple and frugal a thing is happiness: a glass of wine, a roast chestnut, a wretched little brazier, the sound of the sea. Nothing else.”
― Nikos Kazantzakis, Zorba the Greek
