Which Monster Is Hiding Under Your Bed?

The concept of a monster hiding under your bed is a very fascinating one and there are some real roots to it which we will discuss later in the article. You could mostly hear it from children at the age of 4-10. While it may happen to adults too, it mostly happens in the aforementioned range. Children face it mostly because of the fact that their brain is mostly not developed yet. They have a very hard time understanding something as abstract as fear. Their brains are not yet developed to tell them who should they feel threatened by. It takes time and mostly the problem solves itself as they grow up.

It may seem to just another irrational fear of your child but it has a very real root. The answer to it could be found in psychology. When we were in the hunter-gatherer phase of evolution children had the fear of wild animals while they were sleeping. Hence you see that the fear has some real background to it. While our lifestyle had changed drastically in the past 5000 years but our brain has not developed at that pace. In fact, our brains had remained mostly the same. Hence those unexplained fears of your children are functioning the same way as the children thousands of years back.

There are many ways by which you could help your child to get away from that fear. You could talk to your child and ask about that monster. If you ask logical questions then they would realize it by themselves that their fear is irrational. You could also help by actually recognizing is really there and you could help them to defeat the monster. You could also use relaxation techniques like you could use soothing audio made specifically for that purpose. You could find hundreds of them on the internet. You could also tell them a story and make them feel relaxed.

There are many different techniques which could help your child. I hope that your child gets over it asap.

“Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, ‘Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous?’ Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won’t feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It’s not just in some of us; it’s in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.”
― Marianne Williamson, A Return to Love: Reflections on the Principles of “A Course in Miracles”

“I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer. Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration. I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over me and through me. And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path. Where the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.”
― Frank Herbert, Dune

“There are two basic motivating forces: fear and love. When we are afraid, we pull back from life. When we are in love, we open to all that life has to offer with passion, excitement, and acceptance. We need to learn to love ourselves first, in all our glory and our imperfections. If we cannot love ourselves, we cannot fully open to our ability to love others or our potential to create. Evolution and all hopes for a better world rest in the fearlessness and open-hearted vision of people who embrace life.”
― John Lennon

“Tell your heart that the fear of suffering is worse than the suffering itself. And that no heart has ever suffered when it goes in search of its dreams, because every second of the search is a second’s encounter with God and with eternity.”
― Paulo Coelho, The Alchemist
